Hamburg
The Buddhism Center Hamburg of the Karma Kagyu Lineage is one of the largest Buddhist centers in Germany and is run by its more than 500 members on a voluntary basis.
Our center was founded in the 1970s by Lama Ole Nydahl and has been located at Thadenstrasse 79 since 2002.
On our premises there is a hall for meditation and lectures, a Buddhist library, a shop with Buddhist literature and handicrafts, a seminar room, rental apartments for the more than 40 residents of the center and a center café.
The acquisition in 1997 and the subsequent expansion of the former ship's carpentry shop at Thadenstrasse 79 into a Buddhist center was made possible by donations from more than 700 sponsors, through cooperation with the GLS Bank and the Hamburg building authority. The ten-year construction work was supported by a great deal of personal contribution by the association members and donations in kind. In 2003 the center was donated to the Diamond Way Buddhism Foundation.
